Anybody else get their start in the dirt? I still wish I lived somewhere where it was easier to get a dirt bike and go out and tear it up. I grew up riding 3 wheeler, 4 wheelers and dirt bikes. Some of the best times of my life.

Anybody else start in the dirt?

I started out on a mini bike and grew form there. I have had a lot of good times a long the way. The problem with dirt bikes and me is that my balls get bigger than my brain. :)

Started on a 1984 Suzuki 125 Quadrunner. That was the first year they came out with those. Just sold it last year, still ran fine. Jumped over to an XR 100. Then got my 80' Sturgis the year I started college.

Been a long strange road. But growing with 6 acres of land in my back yard and near a state forest really helped me learn some lessons about what bikes are capable of.

Always wanted one, never got one til this Christmas. Bought a Suzuki Z250 for me and "Santa" brought a 50cc 4 wheeler for my boy. We live in a neighborhood that is under development and have a few lots behind us still empty, so we ride there for now. In the summer we'll be going to a local place that is 600 acres of set aside for dirt bikes, quads, off roading, all that jazz. We'll be having some fun for sure. Just got word last night that the local riders club is starting a racing bracket for kids on 4 wheelers, ages 4 - 7 50cc, so he will be racing once he gets more seat time. Should be a good time. You always want your kids to have the things you never got. I might enter ever now and again on the 250 as well. :D

I also started on a mini bike, then got a Yamaha "Mini Enduro'" 60cc. Moved up to a 125 Yamaha when I was 12, and "inherited" my brothers Husqvarna 250WR when he went to college. I miss it a lot, and really wish we had some places to ride around here without getting hassled, but now they're few and far between. Riding in the dirt is a great way to start into motorcycling. You can learn a lot about bike handling skills, and as long as you don't act like an idiot, you won't hurt yourself too badly.

I started riding in 1972......Honda 50, started racing MX in 1975,
raced for about 17 years, In 86' bought GSXR 750 new. Now about 40
bikes later......Shovelheads and Panheads are my love.
gonna race the local Hare scrambles circuit this year.
And if you live 45 minutes from the "DRAGON" US129, you gotta love it!
other than that.........it's still Tennessee, no matter how you look at it!

I also started out on a mini bike. My Grandfather took me down to local Harley-Davidson dealer and I picked out a Harley orange mini. :D I tore that thing up then passed it down to my brothers and cousins when I got a Honda enduro XL175. Do dirt roads count? I finally picked up a H-D big twin in 2002. A FLHTC/Electra Glide Classic and have put on at least 15,000 Miles every year since then.

Going to visit my cousin in NC would be a great excuse to ride the Dragon.

Howdy Mongo and Dilligaf,

I started with 2003 KTM 450 EXC Bike.

It was fun and very adventurous so I'm hooked up with it already.

But I guess I just got lucky as a girl because unlike Dilligaf :o we don't have anything to grow more than the brain :p

Have Fun!!!!

I hope you won't mind me asking where are you at?

Why is it difficult to get a dirt bike in your area?

Have you tried looking at http://www.marksmotos.com ?

They might have dirt bikes for sale near the place where you at :)
